Not ready to commit to a full course but want to throw on a wheel? Join us for our Try Night! In this 2.5 hour class, you'll get experience throwing clay on a wheel.

You will leave this class with a piece! We will let the piece dry, fire it, clear glaze it, and glaze fire it for pickup about 4 weeks after the class. If you create more than one piece that you would like to keep, you can opt to add additional pieces for $10 each.

Clay and tools provided! - if you want tools to take home, please add the tool kit add-on.

Clay, glazes, and firings are included in the workshop fee. Participants will have enough clay to create approximately 2–4 small sculptural pieces during the session (up to roughly 6 x 6 x 6 inches each). Bisque and glaze firings are included, and participants may choose their preferred glaze color. Pieces will be glazed and finished by the instructor after the workshop.

In this open-level workshop, we’ll be using handbuilding techniques to make playful sculptural clay creations, companions, creatures, or other imagined forms. Focused on slab and pinch techniques, this class is beginner friendly and open to all levels.

Ages 10+ are welcome with an adult also joining the class. Ages 15+ may attend independently.

Robbie Ginsberg is a Ridgewood-based ceramic artist and illustrator exploring themes of nature, queer joy, and play through everyday objects and sculpture.

If you’re new to wheel throwing, this class is the perfect place to start. This six-week course is deliberately paced, allowing space to develop both technical precision and a personal aesthetic. By the end of the course, you’ll leave with a collection of beautifully finished, food-safe pieces that reflect your own hand and sensibility.

No experience needed. Open to complete beginners.

Whether you're brand new to the wheel or looking to continue building on previous experience, this all-levels wheel throwing course is designed to meet you where you are. Beginners will learn the fundamentals of wheel throwing in a supportive environment, while returning students will have the opportunity to refine techniques, troubleshoot challenges, and work toward more complex forms and personal projects.

Through demonstrations, guided exercises, and individualized instruction, students will develop skills in wheel throwing, trimming, surface decoration, and glazing while building confidence and consistency at their own pace.

By the end of the course, you'll leave with a collection of beautifully finished, food-safe ceramic pieces that reflect your own interests and creative goals.

No experience necessary. Open to beginners and returning students alike.

In this 6-week beginner course, students will learn the fundamentals of wheel throwing from start to finish. Processes covered will include wedging, centering, cylinder making as the foundation for additional forms, shaping, trimming, altering forms, handle pulling and attachment, and preparation for firing and glazing.

The class aims to create an accessible, community-oriented environment where students can build both technical skills and confidence working with clay, while also developing a relationship with clay as a medium for grounding, creativity, and personal expression.

This course meets once per week for eight consecutive weeks on Mondays from 6:00 PM–8:30 PM.

In this 8-week handbuilding course, students will create a large-scale ceramic bust or head vessel while exploring the rich history of figurative sculpture in clay. Through a combination of demonstrations, guided projects, artist discussions, and individual feedback, students will learn foundational handbuilding techniques while developing their own visual language and approach to sculptural form.

The course will cover pinch, coil, and slab construction, slipping and scoring, clay compression, surface development, armatures and structural support, facial construction, texture, underglaze, glaze, and finishing techniques. Along the way, we'll examine how historical and contemporary artists have approached portraiture, identity, storytelling, and vessel forms through clay.

Artists discussed throughout the course may include Elizabeth Catlett, Raven Halfmoon, Yaritza Flores Bustos, Simone Leigh, Akinsanya Kambon, and others.

This class is open to beginners as well as students with previous clay experience. Whether you're interested in sculpture, ceramics, portraiture, or expanding your handbuilding practice, you'll leave the course with a deeper understanding of clay as a sculptural medium and a finished bust or head vessel that reflects your own ideas, influences, and creative process.
